Add Anne Theriault to the list of anti-intellectual writers who assume a man is a rapist just because a woman said so

Read it here, if you have the stomach.

This goes way beyond "wrong," or "stupid," or "unjust."  To assume Woody Allen is a rapist, as this proud feminist does, is downright evil. Yes, evil.

Are you noticing a trend here?

Where are the fair-minded feminists? Seriously. Are there any fair-minded feminists out there who will take issue with this idiocy?

  1. Don't forget Amanda Marcotte:
In the Court of Public Opinion Let's Try Preponderance of Evidence as the Standard

She also possibly makes up a statistic??? She writes: "the FBI estimates that only 2-8% of rape reports are false." She links to another article, which links to the Enliven Project, which cites the The Voice - False Reports: Moving Beyond the Issue to Successfully Investigate and Prosecute Non-Stranger Sexual Assault (2009,vol3,#1) -

The Voice writes, "estimates for the percentage of false reports begin to converge around 2-8%" and cites false rape reporting rates from 6 studies: 7%(MAD), 6%(Clark&Lewis), 8.3%(Grace&Loyd&Smith), 10.9%(Harris&Grace), 8 or 2.5%(Kelly&Lovett&Regan) and 2.1%(Heenan&Murray). That doesn't really seem to "converge" around 2-8%. Most of it is a lot closer to 8% or higher than 2%. More importantly, none of these studies appear to be from the FBI. Only the first one is even from the USA.

The only place I found a remotely similar statistic from the FBI was in the 1995 UCR Crime in the U.S. report, which states: "The “unfounded” rate, or percentage of complaints determined through investigation to be false, is higher for forcible rape than for any other Index crime. In 1995, 8 percent of forcible rape complaints were “unfounded,” while the average for all Index crimes was 2 percent." (Uniform Crime Report, Crime in the US, section 2, pg24). 8%, not 2-8%.

The FBI found the exact same thing in the 1996 (sec2,pg26) & 1997 (sec2,pg26) UCRs. However, I can't find any mention of "unfounded" rape reports in any UCR starting from 1998.

Has the FBI ever actually given this statistic Marcotte cites or is Marcotte just making up statistics about rape?

  2. "Where are the fair-minded feminists? Seriously. Are there any fair-minded feminists out there who will take issue with this idiocy?"

I can answer that question for you, Pierce.

Fair-minded and Feminists in the same sentance is the very defintion of an Oxymoron. So no.
It goes against the very fabric of there belief system: Patriarchal Theory. It's like trying to convince Christians that Judaism is the correct way or to convience Athethist that God exists or vice-versa. Just Impossible. I know it is a very simple response, but that is what the whole thing boils down to.
